The eclipse

Dear Blog,

Wednesday, August 12th was the eclipse in the larger part of Spain. I had never seen an eclipse before and I was pretty excited! It was sunny the whole day until about 6 pm. The eclipse was supposed to start at around 7:30 so we all prayed for the clouds to leave.

In the meantime we ate, drank, and laughed.

Everyone came equipped with bread, cheese, meat, chips, and wine or cider.

It was about 13 of us and a small chunk of Oviedo sitting on a hill in Invierno Park waiting for the show.

But as the clock ticked closer to 7:30 the clouds didn't look like they were leaving anytime soon.

I didn't really care because I didn't even know the eclipse was happening when I would be in spain, it just kind of happened. I felt bad for the people I had met who had come all the way from Ohio just to see the eclipse.

We took a lot of photos in the eclipse glasses, we figured we'd put them to use since we didn't think we'd be using them that evening for their intended purpose.

We waited a while longer...

Finally something did happen. The world got darker in an instant. Then in another instant the world looked as if it was night. Then a minute later it got light again! I was amazed. I was so grateful to see even just that.

After that we went to the dorms, played ping pong, foosball, and cards.

Though this event was fantastic, I hope in my lifetime I'll get to see another eclipse....without clouds.
