The Ins and Outs of Summer 2026

Dear Blog,

It is now June, the first month of summer and excitement creeps up on me slowly but surely for the summer days I will spend in the sun. I feel it is important for me specifically to set some loose guidelines for the ins and outs of my summer so that I may feel inspired and complete my summer goals. Summer is a time for anything to happen and I will make sure that anything does.

                      In: Doing Nothing
I find that summer, for me, is the time to do nothing and feel great about it. Too often do we feel the pressure to take advantage of every second of summer, but some of the best are spent being bored and not recognizing how unburdened you are with having nothing to do.

Forget the embarrassment of being sweaty as hell at the bar... summer is a time to shake ass and be free. You will forget the few judgemental stares you will get from the boring and unfun, you will, however, remember the bliss you felt getting into the groove.

Out: Going on Instagram
GET DA FUCK OFF THE GRAM!!! Unless you're posting. Nuff said.

In: Image collages
Summer is a time for fun and nothing is more fun than combining pictures for no reason. It is an easy way to create and express yourself at extremely low stakes.

In: Wearing my glasses
I got new glasses but.... to tell you the truth I don't really wear them because everyone tells me I look "smart" which I think is code for silly as hell. But this summer I will put my pride aside because seeing is my top priority.

Out: Being shy
Summer is a time more than ever to talk to strangers- to reach out and have meaningless and meaningful conversations with people you may never see again. People are solar powered, reach out, you will be met with kindness 9 times out of 10.

 In: Hugo Spritz's
This is the drink of the summer, not up for debate. The casual elegance of the hugo spritz goes unmentioned, yet I must mention it here. It's fresh, light, floral and sweet and the perfect way to start your night, or keep it going. There is nothing better than sitting on a tiny seat feeling the hot air with a hugo spritz in hand, gossiping your girls with a little bowl of things to crunch on. I am determined to bring the hugo spritz to its rightful place on the summer drink podium and will spend this summer doing so.

                                                                   In: Going on boats
To be honest I'm kind of scared of boats. But I'm pushing past this fear this summer. I will feel the ocean breeze and sail across whatever sea I see fit. Boats are the thing to be enjoyed during the hot summer.

Out: Leaving projects unfinished
Summer overwhelms many with freedom to do anything and the feeling that you can start anything. Starting too many things leaves room to forget....but you shouldn't. You have more time than ever to finish up these random projects, whatever they may be. So do itttt!

In: Watermelons, Peaches, and Cherries
There is something truly special about biting into a seasonal fruit at its peak season. I find most satisfaction biting into summer fruits like watermelons, peaches, nectarines, and cherries. They may be shipped from Spain, Georgia, Chile or something, but they're still at peak season! I can't wait to make a fruit salad with a bit of fresh mint and lemon juice.

Out: Not using sunscreen
One cannot wear a sunburn with pride. It is a symbol of the careless and unprepared. YYYYUCK! Although being tan is in, being sunburnt is not. If you don't use sunscreen, it is inevitable you will get sunburnt. Don't be a fool, apply that spf 30 or 50 or whatever!

In: Blogging (Duh)
I find that when I look back on my blog I remember things I have forgotten ages ago, but sometimes I don't. But I always add pictures. It's a strange feeling looking into my own life through an outward lens, it's like forgetting a language and listening to it not really knowing what it means. What was I feeling then? Why did I write that? I will blog one million times this summer.
After writing for the newspaper and magazine, pumping out a piece per week, all I know is to write. And that is what I will do.
