Oviedo, nueva y vieja

Dear Blog,

Upon arriving in Oviedo at around 1:20 am on July 6th I couldn't see too much. I did notice the street lamps with multiple lamp heads on just one pole, illuminating the streets with a soft warm glow. But seeing as I had traveled for just about 25 hours straight, my mind wasn't in the place to notice the little things.

On July 7th at about 8:50 am, I stepped out into daylight and took a good look around. It's hard to describe what I thought I would see and what I did see. Everything seemed much newer than I thought it would be. The colors were a bit darker and the streets were a bit wider. Roundabouts galore...expected, excellent cafes, and an exceptional utilization of third spaces.

On July 8th we got a tour old old town Oviedo. Learning about the history of the cathedral, the oldest wall, shells pointing the direction of the Camino primitivo. We also got some ice cream! Here are some photos of the town! What a nice sweet old charm it has.

There is another section of Oviedo that is a little richer and touristy, with shops like Zara and Starbucks and things like that. Some of the architecture there reminds me of San Fran for some reason. I'll be sure to take photos of that part of town soon.

I am really enjoying seeing all the different parts of this town and getting to explore. Week one has been so much fun!
