The Long Awaited Watchmaking Store
Dear Blog,
All throughout fall and winter term I have been circling this watch store that is close to downtown. It has really weird hours and has always been closed when I try to go in but on February 25th, I finally got in.
The store is called Anderson Watchmaking on 1385 Oak Street in Eugene.
I first noticed this store while on a leisure walk. Peering into the window, I fell in love with this place. The old style of the interior decor drew me in so much that I wanted to break through the window that night to look around.
When I went into the store I watched the owner replace the battery on a woman's watch who came in before me. Despite this being a watch store, only one clock worked in the entire store. It makes sense though, I feel if all the clocks worked, the hour mark would be awfully loud.
After talking to the owner I learned that he was a fifth generation watch maker! He grew up watching his dad work on watches and went to watch school with his brother. Every man in his close family has their own watch store and are all extremely proud of their work. Anderson Watchmaking focuses on working on antique watches and creating watches with that vintage feel.
Looking out of the window instead of in was a very full circle moment for me.
