Doing What I Love

Dear Blog,

"If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life". I don't know who said that, but they were spitting facts.

I, by no means, do actual "hard work", however, I do work for sure, and I love it.

This spring term I absolutely overloaded myself with tons of commitments, because I felt it was just the right thing to do I guess. To put it into perspective, this was the work I was doing this term:

I once again blogged for Align Magazine, a student run magazine for UO. I also took up the position as Opinion writer for the Daily Emerald, a UO newspaper. And submitted work for 2 editions of the Oregon Voice magazine, yet another student run magazine for UO.

A two-page spread I made for Oregon Voice Magazine

I was also accepted to be a runway model for the "In Bloom" fashion show hosted by Align Magazine, UO Fashion club and the SOJC. I also was chosen to be a model for Align Magazines spring edition "Infrared".

In addition, I was granted the position of interning as the social media manager for Nearby Nature, a local non-profit that educated kids about nature through classes, gardening, nature walks and so so so much more as I came to learn this spring.

Cute picture I got of the kids playing on the Nearby Nature grounds!

With five hefty commitments under my belt this spring along with taking four four-credit classes and working at a grocery store, I was busy to say the least. I actually found I was most relaxed when I was working at my minimum wage grocery store job because I physically couldn't work on any of my other commitments being up at the register.

My google calendar was a sea of different colors, times and places. I of course didn't let my commitments hold me back from having a fruitful social life, but with that on top, the only time I truly had to myself was sleep. A lifestyle I could only write off as manageable because I knew it would last just 3 months.

But this was one of the most rewarding terms of my life, second only to my spring term I spent in Siena, Italy, which is pretty hard to top. Though I complained about being tired, which I was, I seldom complained about the work I had to do, because I loved it, I truly loved it.

Working for the newspaper kept every day interesting as I was either thinking of a polarizing take to write about or trying to find people to interview. Writing for the blog allowed me to do extensive research on random topics and pushed me to go out into the community and document what was going on.

Modeling wasn't really work aside from the meetings and fittings, but other than that, it was just being there.

But even when I felt drowned in work, if the opportunity arose, I took on more. All it took was a week or two to get me hooked on the mf grind. This spring term I became a workaholic. I probably gained a few new gray hairs, but with bleaching my hair once every five weeks or so, I'll never see them.

I won't try and look too deeply into why I love to work so much and I will instead sum it up with it is because I love to do what I do.
